...it’s all good fun, and the performances, by the only team in town likely familiar with the music, are vital, confident, and unapologetically gutsy. Jan Wagner wisely keeps things moving and lets the orchestra strut its stuff. A nice discovery, this. © 2012 ClassicsToday.com. Review by David Hurwitz

...you will love this urgent and impassioned score, which Wagner and his Odense forces play extremely well. A marvelous disc, then, and one that adds significantly to the composer’s discography. Don’t miss it. Review by David Hurwitz

Wagner and the Odense Symphony Orchestra go beyond playing these works as mere virtuoso showpieces. They seem to have a good feel for the idiom, and the orchestra plays with polish.

Wagner also creates the sense that this is a related gallery, an occasion to step back and admire Victor Hartmann’s paintings with more time than we usually have, for Jan Wagner seems as concerned with the mechanics of the music as with the overall result.

Jan Wagner elicits some shining playing hereabouts. Review by David Gutman - Gramophone

Given a perfectly idiomatic accompaniment from Jan Wagner and the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the result is as fine a version of this work as any. The live recording has great presence and immediacy, with excellent balances despite the close miking. In sum, Bridge has given us a great souvenir of what must have been a terrific music festival.
